Becky’s Bender: GES Latin America Nightlife Recommendations
It may seem like all the iGaming fun takes place in London, the center of the iGaming universe, but let’s not forget about Central America, home to many of the old school wild, wild Westers, online sportsbook legends and some other really shady mother f’ers!
The sheer amount of iGaming folk in Central America and the growth of the Spanish markets in Latin America make Panama a perfect location for a gathering of experts on this region and for those who want to learn more. To satisfy the need, The Gaming Executive Summit (GES) Latin America is taking place from February 22-24 in Panama City, an urban area that enjoys a direct comparison to Miami’s South Beach, so clearly the nightlife after the conference hours will be hoppin’.
If you’re planning on attending this event, GES organizers have arranged a cocktail hour at the conclusion of Day One and are in the process of planning an official party for later in the evening, so stay tuned to Becky’s Bender for more details. In the meantime, I’ve spoken with two Panama City nightlife experts- Jorge Barahona and JD- to bring you the very best recommendations for this buzzing Latin American city.
Pangea Restaurant (Mixed Menu)
This restaurant is located in a remodeled old colonial house in which each room has a different theme and decoration- the Singapore, Rio de Janerio, Bombay, Nairobi, Marraksh, and the Habana room. The food and drinks are excellent and you can enjoy live tango shows on Fridays and Brazilian events on Saturdays.
Orale Restaurant (Mexican Food)
Orale is a very “entertaining” restaurant with live Mariachis and Mexican cultural icons pictured on the walls such as El Chavo, the Chapulin Colorado and even clown midgets!
El Trapiche (Panamanian Food)
This restaurant is the best in the city if you want to have a taste of a traditional Panamanian dish.
Beirut (Lebanese Food)
One of the best restaurants in Panama, hands down. Enjoy an excellent meal, a smoke from a Hookah and Lebanese dancers and singers on Saturdays and Sundays. Highly recommended.
Superbook Sports Bar (American Food)
Superbook is the perfect place for all sports fans. Enjoy the best buffalo wings and burgers in town while watching sports on one of the 27 HD screens. Patrons can also place bets on any sport game or event.
Market (Mixed Menu)
Very popular restaurant in Panama City, highly recommended.
Hard Rock Cafe Panama
Always a great place to hang out and listen some good old rock and roll and on Fridays there is an excellent live cover band.
Manrey Hotel Rooftop Pool Bar
This place is just amazing- great music and design. Highly recommended.
Superbook Sports Bar
After all the games are over, Superbook transforms from a Sports Bar to a Disco Bar with a complete set of lights, sound system, DJ booth and live shows.
La Rana Dorada – The Golden Frog
A good old-fashioned Irish Pub in downtown Panama. Good costumer service and great imported beers.
La Bodegita VIP
La Bodegita is one of the most famous clubs in the city and legendary for its beautiful women and every day party. The club is open every day of the week and it is pretty much guaranteed that you will have a good time every time you go.
Calle Uruguay is an avenue with more than 20 bars and discos and is a great place to go clubbing (and eating- there are tons of restaurants around here as well).
Zona Viva is the newest hot spot where everyone is going. The club is located in Amador which used to be American controlled territory and now is a boulevard with over 14 discos and constant events featuring international DJ’s and musicians.
The girls working in the strip joints+ are Colombian, Panamanian and Russian and there are three places worth visiting if you’re into this kind of thing:
A Central American Franchise with branches in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama.
French Canadian atmosphere.
This is by far and away the most fancy and complete night club and disco of Panama with limousine service and several restaurants inside. Oh yea, and nice looking girls too.
